Engineers are an interesting breed of people. Whether it be the long hours or the need for technical know-how to fix anything, the people that take these jobs can be a mystery. Well, wonder no longer as we at Secure Data answered those questions for you. We had an interview with the newest member of our team, the Director of Engineering, John Childers. The questions here might not be too serious, but they were very informative. We hope you enjoy getting to know John just as much as we did.

What Certifications do you have? Which one was the hardest to get? Which one is your proudest?

I’ve had a number of certifications over the years. Way back when, studying for the Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP) was a great challenge.  I made it through 3 of the 5 tests before transitioning to a new role. I’ve been proud of each of the certifications earned. I love setting goals, seeing the results once achieved, and then raising the bar a little higher.

If you weren’t an engineer, what would you like to do?

I wasn’t aware I could do anything else to do?

What’s your proudest achievement?

There is way too much to talk about here.

On a personal note, I’m extremely proud of my kids – they exceed my expectations every day. So, my greatest achievement was marrying my wife.

Professionally, every day is great. Having the privilege to work with some of the greatest engineering minds has been my best achievement.

What is number one on your bucket list?

Travel to Australia and Bora Bora.

What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery?

Get a lawyer.

If you could eat lunch with one person (alive or dead) who would it be? Why?

My dad. He passed away at the young age of 74 and I’d love to have one more lunch with him.

What’s your go-to guilty pleasure?

Riding dirt bikes.

What’s the best joke you’ve ever heard?

Haha – you know engineers are not known for their jokes, right?
